I went along to the workshop tonight as usual. Lots of cycling stuff going on in and around the city.

A few here:
The Open Dreams Foundation are looking for riders to ride from Leicester to Paris (Clock Tower to Eiffel Tower) over 4 days in August. If you raise 500 quid the food, accomodation etc are free.

The Leicester Shire Cycle Challenge was talked about. I've already entered our workplace and hope that a few of the club will too. Details here: http://www.leicestershirecyclechallenge.org.uk/home

Rick was there from the Western Park MTB trails. I told him that they had the support of our membership and that we would have a digging day if they get the approval to go ahead. They need to wait until the council elections are over before they can move on.

The Leicester Cycle Map is ready to be printed., This is excellent and I'll let you have details of where you can get it once it comes out.

Cyclemagic are re-launching a week on Friday (25th). They are starting something called the Friday Street Bike Club. Members will be able to hire Cyclemagic's bikes (tall bikes, tandems, recumbants, trailers - you name it). They will also be able to attend advanced bike mechanic's courses and even a frame-building course. I'm sure there are a few of us who would like a go at building our own frame. Keep an eye on http://www.cyclemagic.org.uk/

There was a quick discussion on the velodrome at Beaumont Leys. We were told that planning permission had been granted and the land had been given, all that was needed was for a club to make the application for the funds to build it and to keep it going once built. I should point out, it's not quite another Manchester. The plan is for a 20 degree banked, 250m tarmac oval. Still fun and something we'll talk about at committee.

The Big Life Ride at Mallory got a mention too. We really need to get a team or three entered into this. I'm planning on riding it solo (if they'll let me) just for the hell of it...

There was some other stuff. The Leicestershire Road Club even turned up!.
Let me know if you want any more details on any of this or if you fancy attending one of these meetings.
